The 8th grade boys basketball team hosted the Danville Warriors last night in a tough, physical matchup that saw both teams dealing with early foul trouble and key players spending stretches on the bench. Despite that, the Dogs settled in and competed possession for possession throughout the opening half. William Walters set the tone early, scoring 6 points while providing some stout on-ball defense to keep the Warriors in check. Danville managed to slip into halftime with a narrow one-point edge. Coming out of the break, the Dogs found themselves in a familiar spot, trailing but within striking distance, and were determined not to repeat past games where opponents seized control in the third quarter. This time, the response was exactly what they needed. The Dogs clamped down defensively, holding Danville to just 6 points in the quarter, and used steady offensive execution to swing the momentum. Logan Downs delivered a strong stretch with 6 points in the third, helping the team grab the lead heading into the fourth. The final quarter became a possession-by-possession battle. Both teams traded key plays, and with the game tightening in the final minute, the Warriors managed to edge back in front. The Dogs had one last look at a game-tying three, but it just missed, allowing Danville to escape without overtime, 34-31. Logan Downs led the Dogs with 8 points, a team-high 6 rebounds, and also drew a charge. William Walters and Roman Easton each added 6 points, and Kingston Rideout pulled down 5 rebounds to anchor the interior.
